Soccer's Historic Start Continues With Win Over Portland State
9/5/2021 6:11:00 PM | Women's Soccer
HILLSBORO, Ore. – Boise State soccer moved to 5-0 for the first time in program history after scoring four goals to defeat Portland State Sunday afternoon in Hillsboro, Ore.
As has been the case all season, the Broncos found their goals from a number of goal scorers in Sunday's matchup. Redshirt-freshman Sophie Drown wasted no time making an impact in her first start for Boise State by scoring the opener early in the seventh minute. Morgan Miles added on to the lead a few minutes later as she scored her first goal of the season in the 13th minute to push her team to a two-goal advantage.
A third first-half goal came off the foot of Mia Burns in the 38th minute thanks to a Reese Bodas assist. The final goal of the match was scored by Keile Hansen who notched her third of the season and the second in as many matches, having scored the winner in Thursday's match against UC Davis.
Starting-goalkeeper Genevieve Crenshaw saved five shots in 67:05 minutes before being replaced by Sydney Smith who came on to close the match. Crenshaw picked up her third win of the season and the fifth of her career.
This marks the first time in program history a Bronco team has started a season with five consecutive victories, besting the previous mark of four-straight set by the 2019 Mountain West championship team.
The shutout streak lives on for Boise State as they refused to give up a goal for the fifth-straight match to start this season. Dating back to last season the Broncos have not given up a goal for the last 591:51 minutes of play, also a program record. At the time of this writing they stand as one of only five teams nationally to have not given up a goal in the 2021 season.
