BOISE, Idaho – Dominique Leonidas scored a game-high 22 points and Boise State posted a convincing 71-47 victory over visiting Utah State, Sunday.
Leonidas scored in double figures for the fourth-straight game and is averaging 20.3 in Mountain West play.
"She has been an amazing blessing to our team in every aspect of life," Boise State Head Coach Gordy Presnell said. "She's a great mentor academically, has good core values and is getting better offensively."
The Broncos (5-9, 1-2 MW) jumped out to a 14-8 lead behind eight points from Leonidas and led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.
A 3-point play by Leonidas on Boise State's initial possession in the second period extended the lead to 17-11 before Utah State (5-9, 0-4) went on a 9-1 run to move in front 20-18 with 5:02 remaining before intermission.
The Broncos responded with a 13-4 to close the first half, led by six points from Abby Muse, and entered the locker room on top 31-24.
Elodie Lalotte scored six points to key an 11-0 run in the third quarter as Boise State seized command at 46-29 with 5:20 left in the period. The Broncos increased their lead to 54-36 with 10 minutes remaining.
Both Lalotte (14 points/10 rebounds) and Muse (14 points/12 rebounds) recorded double-doubles.
"Elodie and Abby were fantastic in the third quarter," Presnell said. "Abby has struggled from the foul line this season and today she was really good (10-for-12). Elodie got going. When she gets the ball, she is hard to stop in the block."
Boise State outrebounded Utah State 53-33. The Broncos have won the battle on the glass in each of their last four games, including three by a plus-20 margin or better.
Next up is a two-game road trip that includes games at UNLV (Thursday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. MT) and at San Diego State (Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. MT).
