Broncos Knock Off Rams in Fort Collins

Boise State earned its first-ever win at Colorado State.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Boise State volleyball used a balanced offensive attack with four Broncos reaching double-figure kills to knock off Colorado State in four (28-26, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20) to collect its first-ever win in Fort Collins in 13 tries.
Boise State improved to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in MW play, while Colorado State fell to 14-6 and 7-2.

The Blue and Orange took early leads in all four sets as they took the first, third and fourth periods to clinch the match. The Broncos outhit the Rams .246 percent for 58 kills to .222 percent and 48 kills.

Boise State never trailed in the opening set and led by as many as six points before holding off the Rams in extra points 28-26. Both teams hit well with the Broncos hitting .400 percent to the Rams' .395 percent.

The Blue and Orange ran out to a 13-6 lead in the second. Down 14-8, Colorado State used a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the match at 15-14. Tied at 19, the Rams closed it out on a 6-3 run to even the match score at 1-1.

The third saw the Rams take a 21-16 lead when the Broncos stampeded on a 9-0 run to close it out by four points 25-21. Jet Taylor led the charge with three block assists and one kill, followed by Lauren Ohlinger with two service aces and a kill.

Boise State stretched its scoring run out to 14-1 early in the fourth set as the Broncos took a quick 5-1 advantage after the Rams scored the first point of the period. Boise State took control with its 5-0 run and never trailed again as it led by as many as seven points down the stretch. Â

- On how the team played today. "The team played really well start to finish. I thought the last couple of days we were really focused and had a lot of intensity and it led to us playing probably the most aggressive match that we've played this year. It's good to see what we're capable of.''
- On winning the program's first match at Fort Collins. "I didn't know that at first but I think that means so much for our team and how hard we wanted this. We came out and played really well and didn't back down at all, this really means a lot."
- On the play of the team overall. "I think we prepared a lot for their players and learned what their tendencies are. We came out with a lot of energy and were prepared, and we came through with a big win in a big match."
- On what she was feeling entering the match and her mindset during the match. "I went into the game super confident about our team and our ability. I really just wanted to do my job, the best that I could to help the team be as successful as possible. It was a great match and a huge win for us."
- Jordan Miller led the Broncos hitting .382 percent for a team-high 17 kills with three blocks to finish with 18.5 points.
- Ohlinger hit .345 percent for 16 kills to go with four service aces and two blocks – one solo – for a team-high 21.5 points.
- Bartsch tallied 13 kills and two block assists to end up with 14 points.
- Annie Kaminski continued to dominate on the attack hitting a team-best .571 percent for 10 kills.
- Ashley Hayden distributed 51 assists from the setter position.
- Allison Casillas recorded a team-high 15 digs and was the only Broncos in double-figures.
- Casillas moved into 12th place on the career digs list with 1,052.
- Ohlinger moved into fifth place on the Boise State career kills list with 1,248. She increased her rally scoring era (2001-present) record for career service aces to 123 and moved into sole possession of ninth-place all-time.
- Hayden recorded her fourth match of the season with 50-plus assists.
- Bartsch has recorded nine-straight matches with double-digit kills and has 17 overall in 18 matches played.
