Broncos Find Pool Play Success in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Boise State beach volleyball team produced a solid showing on the first day of pool play at the Alki Pairs Tournament. Competing for the first time this season, the Broncos had seven pairs compete in each of the seven available pools and finished with a 16-5 combined record on the day.
The Blue and Orange had two teams compete in the Gold Division, which featured two separate pools. Madison Nichols and Lily Patock lost their first match of the day before winning their next two matches to finish second in pool play. Rorianna Chartier and Sierra Land won their first two matches of pool play before falling in a three-set thriller in the final match.
Two of the five Boise State pairs that competed in the Silver Division finished the day undefeated in pool play. Pairs Anika Christensen/Elli Wolthuis and Aris Vetter/Abbie Wolf both finished 3-0, earning top seeds for bracket play on Tuesday. The remaining Broncos all finished 2-1 in each of their respective pools.

"I thought our team did really well," head coach Allison Voigt said. "They worked so hard during the fall season in their training and it translated to live matches. We wanted to play at our pace and not get sped up and I'm really proud of how we handled that. Our girls really adjusted on the fly. From top to bottom, we had great moments but also good learning moments which was good to see.
"We had a lot of matches which is great to see, but we're going to have to focus on taking care of ourselves tonight. We're going to get some good rest and good nutrition. We need to take care of our bodies. We want to be playing deep in bracket play tomorrow. We're going to plan on waking up early again and take care of business."

The Broncos will conclude the tournament on Sunday morning with bracket play beginning at 9:45 a.m. MT.
