PALM DESERT, Calif. – Boise State men's golf won its first two match-play rounds against Wichita State and UTEP, but fell short in the championship Saturday afternoon to host Wyoming at the Wyoming Desert Match Play at the Classic Club.

"We had a chance to win today and didn't quite get it done, so that's always frustrating," said head coach Dan Potter. "We had some good moments over the last few days but we were far from full steam. We have to get after it before our next start and this week should serve as good motivation. We got a good glimpse of where we are at. We did some good things but we also have a lot of work to do moving forward."

QUARTERFINAL vs WICHITA STATE
The Broncos opened the spring slate with a solid first round against Wichita State Friday morning, winning four-of-six matches to advance. Hugo Townsend served as the No. 1 seed and took care of business, winning 7&6 over the Shockers' Lucas Scheufler. Max Charles dominated in his outing as well, winning 6&5 over Michael Winslow.

Nick Hedman and Drew Reinke each added wins for the Blue and Orange, winning 3&2 and 4&2, respectively, to put the Broncos into the semifinal.

SEMIFINAL vs. UTEP
Townsend provided more of the same in the semifinal round, winning 4UP over the Miners' Greg Yellin. Drew Reinke provided a huge boost in the sixth slot for Boise State, going up five with four to play to secure a point. Charles and Hedman again took victories – 3&1 and 1UP respectively – and Boise State found itself in the championship with a 4-1-1 victory.

CHAMPIONSHIP vs. WYOMING
In Saturday's championship round the Blue and Orange kept things close, with several lead changes taking place on the back nine. Charles turned in another good performance, going up four with three to play to clinch his third point for Boise State on the weekend. Alex Talbot delivered in crunch time for the Broncos, edging out a 2&1 victory over the Cowboys' Patrick Azevedo in the five slot to secure a second point for his team. When it was all said and done, Wyoming came out on top 3-2-1 and the Broncos walked away with runner-up honors.

Up next, Boise State returns to the Classic Club for the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, March 2-4.
