SAN DIEGO – Boise State scored 15 runs in sweeping two games Saturday at the SDSU Season Kickoff.
The Broncos (5-0) beat Middle Tennessee 8-1 in the morning and knocked off Stanford 7-3 in the afternoon. Boise State improved to 4-1 all-time against the Cardinal, which has participated in the last two NCAA postseasons held (2019, 2021).
"It was a good day of softball," Boise State Head Coach Justin Shults said. "What I am most proud of is the way our players responded when they were challenged. We feel really good about what we have here."
In the victory over Middle Tennessee (0-4), Jordyn Hutchins homered twice, including a grand slam, and collected seven RBI. Bella Rocco accounted for the Broncos' other run with a solo home run.
Taylor Caudill (2-0) gave up one run in five-plus innings and Hannah Bailey recorded the final six outs for her first save of the season.
Against Stanford, Bailey (2-0) went the distance, giving up just four hits. She retired the 12 batters she faced and notched five of her six strikeouts during the stretch.
Boise State travels to San Antonio for the Cardinal Invitational hosted by UIW. The Broncos' first game is Friday at 10 a.m. MT against Omaha.
