Broncos Collect Individual Titles, Fall to No. 18 BYU

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State gymnastics team claimed at least a share of the individual title in three of four events, and senior Alexis Stokes tied the school record on bars, but the 24th-ranked Broncos fell to No. 18 BYU, 196.450-195.975, at ExtraMile Arena, Saturday.
Stokes' 9.975 headlined the bottom half of a Bronco bars rotation that all scored 9.900 or better. The bars title was the third-career title for Stokes, and her first since winning the 2019 MRGC Championship, March 22, 2019. Emily Lopez followed with a 9.925, and Emily Muhlenhaupt concluded the rotation with a 9.900.
In the first rotation freshman Alyssa Vulaj posted a career-high 9.875 on vault to lead the team and capture a share of her first career title in the event. The Broncos landed four scores of 9.800 or higher to register a season-high 49.075, marking an improvement on the apparatus in each meet thus far.
On beam, Emily Lopez and Adriana Popp each recorded 9.850s, tying for the event title. For Lopez, the score tied a career high and was her second-career win in the event. For Popp, the victory was the fourth of her career in the event. Freshman Emma Loyim made her beam debut, scoring 9.825. With four scores of 9.800 or better, the Broncos posted 49.075 as a team.
In the floor rotation, freshman Blake Pascal established a career high with a 9.875.Two Bronco freshmen have scored 9.875 on the floor this season, with Elaina McGovern reaching the mark last weekend at BYU (Feb. 5). Emma Loyim tied her best performance of her debut season with a 9.800, and the Broncos finished with a score of 48.950.
Up next for Boise State is senior night against Utah State. The Broncos host the Aggies Friday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. MT at ExtraMile Arena.
