BOISE, Idaho – For the second time this season, senior Dario De Caro was named the Mountain West Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The accolade follows his record-breaking performance in Boston, Mass., Feb. 12.
The distance standout lowered his own school record in the men's 3,000-meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. He clocked a time of 7:47.46, dipping under 7:48 for the first time in his career, en route to a fourth-place finish in a field of over 130 student-athletes.
The mark is the fastest in the Mountain West and ranks 19th in the NCAA. It is also fifth all-time in the Italian record book.
This is De Caro's second conference award of the 2021-22 indoor track and field season.
Following a weekend off, the Broncos will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for the Mountain West Championships, Feb. 24-26.
