Broncos fall in season opener at No. 28 Washington

SEATTLE, Wash. – After nearly a month's delay, the Boise State women's tennis team opened the team dual season on Saturday at 28th-ranked Washington in Seattle. Though the Blue and Orange fell 7-0 to the Huskies, it was good for the Broncos to finally get on the court for some real action. Boise State moved to 0-1 on the season while Washington improved to 9-4.
 
The Huskies opened the match by taking the team doubles point 2-0 with wins on courts one and three. Boise State's No. 2 doubles team of Holly Stewart and Shauna Heffernan were leading their match 5-4 when the contest was abandoned with the clinching of the team point.
 
In singles play, Boise State was led by Nicole Discenza and Ana Conde Vendrell on courts five and four, respectively. Discenza battled Washington's Kelly Leung  before falling 6-3, 6-2, while Conde Vendrell fell 6-2, 6-2 to the Huskies' Hikaru Sato.  
 
Boise State will return to Boise for its home openers this coming week when they host both Idaho State on March 4 and Portland State on March 5.
