Boise State recorded a 7-0 sweep over the ISU Bengals in the Broncos home opener.

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis opened their home schedule Friday morning with an impressive 7-0 victory over the Idaho State Bengals. Pauline Ernstberger recorded the match clincher when she defeated Hana Cho in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

"This late start to the season had our young women really hungry to play, and today was an example of that," said interim head coach Maria Lopez. "I am proud of the effort, and the work put in every day. The discipline demanded of them to be part of this special program is what is setting this group apart. Tomorrow will be another opportunity to showcase that and I am excited to have another opportunity to play."

"Today's win is very special to us. Saying that we were super excited about today's match is an understatement," said Conde Vendrell. "Our performance overall was very good and we took care of business the way we expected. Playing the home opener on March 4th is quite unusual, we have had to face some challenges but being able to play here in front of our crowd just made us feel so grateful. Now let's get ready for tomorrow against Portland State!"

Boise State opened the morning by sweeping all three doubles contests. Leading the way were Shauna Heffernan and Holly Stewart who blew past their opponents 6-0 on court two.

Joana Baptista and Nicole Discenza clinched the team doubles point following their 6-4 victory on court one, while the No. 3 doubles tandem of Ernstberger and Conde Vendrell went to a tiebreaker before finishing off the sweep with a 7-6(2) win.

Boise State won five of the six singles contests in straight sets, beginning with Stewart. She was the first of three straight Broncos to dispatch their opponents by 6-1, 6-2 scores, Stewart accomplished it at No. 3 singles and was the first off the court. The other two were Baptista on court two followed by Ernstberger at No. 1 singles to clinch the team victory.

Conde Vendrell was the fourth Bronco done after putting away Leah Kuruvilla 6-3, 6-2 on court four. Discenza added a two-set 6-4, 6-2 win on court six, while Bhakti Shah wrapped up the day with a third-set 10-point tiebreaker winning 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).

The win improved the Broncos to 1-1 on the year with another match versus Portland State scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday.
