PROVO, Utah – Boise State scored a season-high 196.525 but ultimately fell to Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference rival and 18th-ranked BYU Saturday afternoon in Provo.

"This was a great showing for us on the road," said head coach Tina Bird. "The team worked together 100-percent and everything went so smoothly. "

After leading the way through the first two rotations, the Broncos posted solid overall scores on beam and floor, but big routines from the Cougars helped them claw their way back and ultimately take the win, 196.700-196.525.

The highlight of the day for Boise State came in the first rotation as the Broncos opened the meet with a massive performance on bars, scoring a 49.350 to take the early lead over the Cougars. Emily Muhlenhaupt posted a 9.925 to earn her share of the individual bars crown, the 18th of her career. Muhlenhaupt was followed by Emily Lopez and Maddi Nilson, each with a 9.900. The mark ties a career high for Nilson. Rounding things out were Alexis Stokes and Talia Little, who put up scores of 9.825 and 9.800, respectively.

"I'm really proud about what our bars team did today," said Bird. "They got us started on a high note and the rest of the events followed suit."

In the second rotation Lopez led the way for the Blue and Orange on vault, scoring a 9.850 to finish as co-champion of the event for the first time in her career. Nilson and Courtney Blackson each turned in 9.825s, and Samantha Smith finished with a 9.800. The Broncos tallied an overall score of 48.900 on the apparatus and held the lead heading into the third rotation.

The Broncos scored 49.025 on floor and 49.150 on beam in the third and fourth rotations, respectively. Reigning MRGC beam champion Adriana Popp turned in another good performance on the apparatus, scoring a 9.875, while freshman Elaina McGovern again stood out on floor, recording a career-high 9.875 to lead the way for her team.

"I'm so proud of all my freshman," said Bird. "I especially want to recognize Elaina for hitting another beautiful floor routine and being our top floor scorer today."

Boise State has a chance for revenge next week as the two schools turn around to face each other in Boise next Saturday (Feb. 12) at 7 p.m. at ExtraMile Arena
