BOISE, Idaho – Donald Rich has been added to the Boise State Sports Performance, Health and Wellness staff as an assistant athletic director, Bronco Athletics announced, Tuesday.

"I am very excited to bring Donald, a former Bronco who has gone on to do really great things in our field, back to Boise," associate athletic director for sports performance, health and wellness Marc Paul said. "I know that he will have an immediate impact on our football program and student-athletes."

Boise State Head Football Coach Andy Avalos added, "Donald is an elite hire. He will play a major role in the welfare of our student-athletes. He is a former Bronco who knows what we are about and understands what we are trying to build within our program."

Rich spent 15 seasons (2004-18) with the Seattle Seahawks, including the final seven as the head athletic trainer, during which the organization won three NFC West Divisional titles and appeared in back-to-back Super Bowls.

As the Seahawks' head athletic trainer, Rich was responsible for all aspects of health care for players, including prevention, evaluation and care of injuries, as well as developing and implementing rehabilitation protocols. He also oversaw all facets of the organization's medical team.

Rich began his tenure with the Seahawks as a summer training camp intern in 2003 and returned as a season-long intern in 2004. He served as an assistant athletic trainer from 2005-12 before being promoted to head athletic trainer in 2012.

"I am thrilled to be back in Boise," Rich said. "I always saw Boise as a place I would love to raise my family. I am excited about the direction that coach Avalos is taking the football program and thrilled to be part of it. I believe Boise State is in great hands under Jeramiah Dickey's leadership."

Rich spent the 2019 XFL season with the Seattle Dragons as the team's head athletic trainer and director of athletic training services. There, he was responsible for assembling an entire medical staff, including hiring and training assistant ATCs and interns and securing medical partnerships for team coverage. Rich also assisted in writing and developing league policies and procedures.

This past year, Rich was a business development manager for a prosthetics and orthotics clinic in Seattle, Wash., developing annual business plans for multiple clinics in the region and educating clinicians, therapists and patients on new medical technology and treatment options.

A Bronco alum, Rich earned his master's degree in exercise science from Boise State after graduating from Florida with his degree in athletic training and spending two years as an athletic trainer at Northwestern, working primarily with football, wrestling and baseball.

He also spent one season working in NFL Europe for the Cologne Centurions in spring 2004.
