Arca Costas and Liborio sweep weekly MW honors

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's Simon Arca Costas and Pedro Liborio swept the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis weekly honors as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Arca Costas was named the MW Player of the Week while Liborio was tabbed as the MW Freshman of the Week after the duo led Boise State to a perfect homestand defeating Montana State, Idaho State and Pacific all by 4-3 scores.
This is the first player of the week honor for Arca Costas this season and the fourth in his career. The senior from Vigo, Spain, went a combined 4-1 overall on the weekend, going 2-1 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
In Friday's win versus Montana State, Arca Costas won his singles match in straight sets 7-5, 6-1, and was the first Bronco off the court.Â
On Saturday, in the 4-3 win over instate-rival Idaho State, the team doubles point was tied at 1-1 with one match remaining. Arca Costas and Caden Moortgat clinched the vital point when they defeated Idaho State's 37th-ranked doubles team of Aleksandar Petrovic and Patrik Trhac in a tiebreaker 7-6(4). He then broke a 1-1 tie in the team score and put Boise State back in front with an easy 6-1, 6-4 straight-set victory at No. 2 singles over Petrovic.
In the weekend's final match versus Pacific, Arca Costas and Moortgat won their doubles match on court one by a 6-2 score helping the Broncos to the team point.Â
The MW Freshman of the Week honor is Liborio's fourth this season. The native of Portugal helped the Broncos to victories over Idaho State and Pacific by recording the match-clinching singles victory in both contests while playing at No. 1 singles.Â
With the team score at 3-2 against Idaho State, Liborio came through for his teammates, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the team victory at 4-2, the match eventually finished at 4-3.
In the weekend's final contest, it again came down to Liborio's match to decide it with the team score tied at 3-3. The freshman from Portugal brought home the win for the Broncos, beating his opponent in two hard-fought sets, 7-5, 7-5, to clinch the team victory.
Arca Costas, Liborio, and their teammates will be back in action this weekend when they wrap up a five-match homestand versus Denver and LMU.
