LARAMIE, Wyo. - Boise State women's tennis fell 4-0 in a Mountain West Conference match at Wyoming Saturday afternoon. Pauline Ernstberger and Ana Conde Vendrel led the Broncos on the day, winning their doubles match 6-3 at the No. 3 position.Â
Boise State moved to 7-6 overall and 3-5 in league play with the loss, while Wyoming improved to 10-11 and 4-4.Â
Ernstberger and Conde Vendrell tied the team doubles score up at one win apiece when they defeated the Cowgirls' Lucia Malinak and Mihaela Kaftanova 6-3 on court three. It was their second win of the weekend and the eighth of the season.
Wyoming eventually claimed the highly-competitive team point with victories at No. 2 and 1 doubles, respectively. Boise State's top tandem of Joana Baptista and Nicole Discenza came up just short at 7-5, while Holly Stewart and Shauna Heffernan were defeated 6-4 on court two.Â
Boise State was leading in three matches in singles when they were abandoned following the Cowgirls clinching the team victory. Stewart was up 6-2, 4-6, 5-2 at No. 3 singles, while both Heffernan, playing on court five, and Bhakti Shah, on court six, had just started their contests and held early leads. Wyoming has only four indoor courts resulting in the five and six singles matches beginning late.Â
Wyoming clinched the victory with wins at courts one, two, and four, respectively. Conde Vendrell rallied from a set down to force her No. 4 singles match into a third set, where she came up short 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, which proved to be the match-clinching win for the Cowgirls.
After spending four straight weeks on the road to open league play, the Blue and Orange will close out the regular season at home this coming weekend. Boise State will face Fresno State on Friday, then San Jose State on Saturday in the home finale at the Appleton Tennis Center. Â
