This is the second-straight year that Shauna Heffernan has been chosen to represent Ireland at the Billie Jean King Cup.

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State junior-to-be Shauna Heffernan has been selected to represent Ireland at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup. The BJK Cup is the women's equivalent to the men's Davis Cup on the world stage.

"I'm so excited to be playing in the BJK Cup in a couple of weeks!" Heffernan said. "Last year we performed really well which has given us a lot of confidence going into this year's competition. It's an absolute honor to be able to represent my country and I can't wait to do it alongside a brilliant group of people."

This marks the second-consecutive year that she has been picked for Ireland's national team.

Heffernan and her Irish teammates will compete in the 2022 Europe Africa Group III stage which will consist of 33 teams split into two tournaments (A&B). Ireland, which is ranked 67 in the world, is seeded No. 1 in the B tournament which will be played in Skopje, North Macedonia, July 4-9.

Other B tournament nations include Malta, South Africa, Portugal, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Iceland, Kenya, Namibia, Albania, Congo, Uganda, Botswana, Burundi, Congo Democratic Republic, Seychelles and Sudan. Only one nation will advance to the Europe Africa Group II stage in 2023. The official draw will take place at the event in July.

In 2021, the Irish just missed promotion to the 2022 Europe Africa Group stage II going 4-1 before falling in the final to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Last year, Heffernan competed in doubles for the Irish going 4-1 overall.
