EUGENE, Ore. – Boise State track and field national champion Kristie Schoffield lowered her school record during the women's 800-meter final at the 2022 USATF Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field, Sunday afternoon.

Schoffield crossed the finish line in eighth with a time of 1:59.80, shattering the previous record of 2:01.09 that she set during her gold-medal performance at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 11.

"We had two goals in mind heading into the meet, making the final and breaking two minutes," Bronco Assistant Coach Gavin O'Neal said. "We assumed they would go together considering the caliber of athletes that were entered to compete. Kristie's been capable of breaking two minutes for at least eight weeks. She just needed the right race."

In the first round of the 800m race, Schoffield finished second in her heat with a time of 2:02.22, earning an automatic qualifying spot in the semifinals. She was the only collegiate athlete to advance out of the first round of competition.

Once again, during Friday's semifinals, Schoffield outpaced the professional women in her heat en route to securing a spot in the event's final. She clocked a time of 2:01.43, her fourth-fastest mark this season.

Today's 800m final capped a historic postseason for the Concord, N.H., native that saw her record the fastest time in the Mountain West preliminaries and final and the NCAA preliminaries, quarterfinals, semifinals and final. Schoffield also earned her sixth-career All-America honor, including her second first-team certificate.
