BOISE, Idaho - Dan Potter announced Tuesday he is resigning as the Boise State Men's Golf Head coach to pursue other interests in the Boise community.
Â
"I've enjoyed every moment of my time at Boise State," Potter said. "It's been humbling to be part of such an outstanding athletic department, university and community."
Â
Potter spent eight seasons with the Blue and Orange and was the 2021 Mountain West Coach of the Year. He led the Broncos to back-to-back NCAA regional appearances in 2020-21 and 2021-22. Boise State's only other regional selection came in 1993-94.
Â
"So many people have supported my efforts over the past eight years and I'm proud of what we accomplished together," Potter said. "I'm especially grateful to the student-athletes and their families who allowed me to be part of their journey. I'm excited to join the many Broncos golf fans and supporters who will continue to help our golf programs thrive."
Â
The Broncos won five tournaments under Potter. Boise State's two tournament titles in 2021-22 marked the first time the Broncos won multiple events since 1992-93.
Â
"I cannot thank coach Potter enough for his contribution and success at Boise State," Bronco Director of Athletics Jeramiah Dickey said. "He is an elite coach whose student-athletes have excelled on and off the course. I wish him and his family the best as they take on this next chapter of their lives."
Â
Potter-led teams posted the three-best season scoring averages in relation to par and five of the top six, including a school record -1.08 in 2020-21.
Â
Student-athletes coached by Potter earned one All-America honor, two conference golfer of the year awards, four all-conference selections, a conference freshman of the year award, 11 individual tournament titles, including two conference medalists (one outright, one shared).
Â
Hugo Townsend was a two-time MW Golfer of the Year and was named 2020-21 PING All-America Third Team. He ranks second in program history with a 70.96 scoring average and top-25 finishes (32). He was a co-medalist at the 2021 MW Championship.
Â
Skyler Eubank was named 2021 All-Mountain West and, like Townsend, was a two-time Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. His 72.27 scoring average is fourth all-time at Boise State.
Â
Brian Humphreys was the Mountain West Freshman of the year and All-Mountain West in 2017. That season, he was the medalist at the conference championship. He ranks fifth in school-career scoring average at 72.55.
Â
A national search for the next head men's golf coach will begin immediately.
