BOISE, Idaho – Kristie Schoffield, the reigning 800-meter national champion, was named the 2021-22 Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday.

Schoffield clocked a MW record, school record and personal-record time of 2:01.09 en route to capturing the national title and her sixth-career All-America honor at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships last month in Eugene, Ore.

The Concord, N.H., native completed a postseason sweep, recording the fastest time in the MW preliminaries and final and the NCAA preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals before her championship performance.

With Schoffield's selection as MW Athlete of the Year, Boise State has now claimed eight such awards – among male and female honorees – since joining the conference for the 2011-12 season, more than any other school during that time and double that of second-place New Mexico (four).

Other Broncos bestowed with the honor include Avery Williams (2020-21), Allie Ostrander (2016-17 through 2018-19), Emma Bates (2013-14 and 2014-15) and Kurt Felix (2011-12).

Schoffield became just the fourth woman in Boise State track and field history, third in outdoor, to capture an individual national championship. She joined Eleni Kafourou (2009 indoor long jump), Bates (2014 outdoor 10,000m) and Ostrander (2017-19 outdoor 3,000m steeplechase).

She is also the first woman from a school outside the Autonomous Five conferences to win the event since 2012.

Schoffield was named the West Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and on the conference awards front, was tabbed the MW Outdoor Track and Field Women's Athlete of the Year.

Schoffield also topped the podium in the 800m race at the 2022 MW Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., pacing the field of eight athletes for the entirety of the race.

Following the conclusion of the Broncos' season, Schoffield shattered her school record at the 2022 USATF Outdoor Championships, crossing the finish line in eighth with a time of 1:59.80. She was the only collegiate athlete to advance out of the first round of competition.
