BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's soccer put forth a strong performance in the second half of its match against Arizona State, but was bested by the Sun Devils 2-1 Thursday evening at Boas Soccer Complex.

The Sun Devils opened strong in the first half as the NCAA's 2021-top-goal-scorer Nicole Douglas netted one in the eighth minute before following it up with another in the 25th.

The Broncos looked the better team for much of the second half, outshooting Arizona State 6-2 and generating four corner kicks to the visitor's one. In the 74th minute, a cross by Dorian Goodwin found the feet of Morgan Padour, who coolly turned and put it past the Arizona State keeper from inside the penalty box to cut the deficit. More chances came for Boise State as the clock approached full time, but the Sun Devils prevented the tying goal to hand the Broncos' their first loss of the season.

"There isn't a person at the game today who would have thought we didn't deserve to be out there, or even share in the points by the end of the game," said head coach Jim Thomas. "I'm really proud of our girls, and now it's my job to have them believe in themselves as we believe in them as coaches."
"We had a great week of training," said Thomas. "Great week of scouting and we saw exactly what we thought we were going to see. We just spent the whole first half not executing it, but I'm really happy they came out in the second half and did it."
"[Starting strong in the second half] is a big thing for us," said Padour. "We're trying to start as strong as we can finish. Everyone can tell in the second half that nobody can hang with us, so if we can figure out how to do that then we'll be up in the first half and be winning the game."

Padour scored the Broncos' goal in the 74th minute, the fourth of her career.
Goodwin played a strong 61 minutes for Boise State, generating the assist on her team's lone goal.
Defenders Abby Bivens and Macie Nelson each generated two shots, with both of Nelson's attempts being on target.

Notables

With four career goals, Padour now has 10 career points, the second most of all active Broncos behind Morgan Stone (18).
Boise State is now 1-1-0 all-time against Arizona State.
