BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's soccer found four goals from three different goal-scorers to cruise past UC Riverside 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Boise.
The Broncos opened the scoring in the 21st minute as defender Jocelyn Stephens played a wonderful ball over the top of the defense to find freshman Hayden Wilsey, who took it the rest of the way and scored. Seven minutes later Boise State extended its lead when Grace Sommers knocked in a cross from Grace KaufmanFuller.
In the second half, Wilsey found the back of the net again, taking the ball from the keeper and shaking a defender before scoring it from close range. After a Highlander goal cut the deficit in the 58th minute, Boise State drew a penalty which was converted by Morgan Stone to secure a three-goal victory for Boise State.

Boise State hits the road for the first time this season beginning with a pair of matches against Pac-12 opponents in Oregon State (Sept. 1) and Oregon (Sept. 4).

- "Hayden [Wilsey] and I had a meeting beforehand," said Boise State head coach Jim Thomas. "I told her I wanted her to be herself today. It was a big opportunity for her, and she'd earned it with great performances in the first two games."
- "I'm happy to get the first win," said Thomas. "It's always good to get the first one under your belt. But I'm happy to get on the road and take more Pac-12 on and really see if we can apply the lessons we've learned in the first three games."
- "Jim [Thomas] told me right before the game to just keep doing what I've been doing," said Wilsey. "I just try to play every single game like it's the same."
- The freshman Wilsey scored two goals on two shots.
- Stone scored her second goal of the season, and her first from the penalty spot this year.
- Stephens played 84 minutes – the most of any outfield player – and assisted the opening goal for Boise State.
- Both Wilsey and Sommers scored the first goals of their respective careers.
- Two freshmen made their first collegiate starts in the match; Wilsey and Teryn Newkirk.
- Stone's goal from the penalty spot was the third of her career, putting her second all-time in program history for penalty kicks converted.
- Boise State is now 1-0-1 all-time against UC Riverside.
