SAN JOSE, Calif. – Boise State volleyball earned its sixth sweep of the season Thursday night at San Jose State as the Broncos defeated the Spartans 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 to improve to 10-8 overall and 6-2 in MW play, good for a second-place tie.

Set one was a battle as the teams traded runs, 10 ties and four lead changes before the Broncos held on for the two-point win, 25-23. Neither team hit the ball well, but Boise State had a big advantage in the serving game, collecting six service aces, including three consecutive aces by Breanna Mitchell.

Boise State never trailed in the second set but was tied six times. With the score even at 11, the Broncos used a 4-0 run to take the lead for good up 15-11, eventually winning it by six at 25-19. Paige Bartsch came alive in the second, recording nine kills in the set.

The third set was close as well, going down to the wire with nine ties and three lead changes. The Broncos watched a four-point 15-11 lead evaporate and turn into a 20-18 deficit. Boise State rallied to take a 23-21 lead. The Broncos then held off the Spartans for the 25-23 win behind kills by Bartsch and the match-winner by Annie Kaminski to clinch the match.
