Broncos Wrap Up Play at ITA Mountain Region Championships

SALT LAKE CITY – Boise State Women's Tennis competed at the ITA Mountain Region Championships, Sunday to wrap up the five-day event.

Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo reached the round of 16 in the main doubles draw of the tournament with a victory over Utah's Samantha Horwood and Emma Kamper, 8-6, before falling to Kara Wheatley and Kendall Kovick of BYU, 8-3.

Seniors Pauline Ernstberger and Shauna Heffernan had a strong showing in the main singles draw of the event, both making it to the round of 32. Ernstberger defeated Zeynep Naz Ozturk from Utah State, 6-4, 7-6(4), before being bested by Noesjka Brink of Wyoming,7-6(5), 6-4.

Heffernan defeated New Mexico State's Lisa Zhu, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, after coming back from a 4-1 deficit in the third set. She then fell to Kaila Barksdale of Utah, 6-2, 6-1.

Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo had an appearance in the round of 16 in the doubles side of the tournament.

Notables

Pauline Ernstberger and Shauna Heffernan achieved their 25th career doubles victory as a pair and moved to the No. 15 spot for most wins in program history.
Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo defeated a pair from Utah in the round of 32. Utah was ranked No. 1 in the Mountain region last season.

What's Next

The Broncos will travel to San Diego, Nov. 3-5, for the San Diego State Fall Classic II to close out their 2023 fall campaign.
