Santa Clara Upends Boise State in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Boise State dropped its first of two games of the South Point Classic, losing 62-52 to Santa Clara, Friday, in Las Vegas.
Dani Bayes hit two 3-pointers in the opening period, including one with 1:56 remaining in the quarter to give Boise State (4-1) a 14-13 lead. The squad raced out on a 10-2 run to start the second quarter, grabbing a nine-point advantage with 3:41 to play in the half. Mya Hansen scored all seven of her points in the second frame as the Blue and Orange led 28-21 at the break.
Natalie Pasco came out of the locker room on fire, draining three 3-pointers in the first four minutes of the second half. Santa Clara (6-1) kept on pace however, outscoring Boise State by three in the period to cut the deficit to four entering the final frame.
Pasco hit her fourth 3-pointer in the opening minute of the quarter, but Santa Clara responded with a 9-0 run to take a 50-46 lead with 5:45 remaining. After a Mary Kay Naro layup cut the lead to two, Santa Clara ended the game on a 12-4 run to come away with the victory. Â
- Abby Muse continued to stuff the stat sheet, scoring nine points, grabbing 16 rebounds and blocking six shots.
- Elodie Lalotte scored eight points and pulled down four rebounds. The senior was 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
- Mya Hansen finished with seven points, three assists and three rebounds.
