The Athletic recognizes redshirt freshman that started in all 13 games
NEW YORK – After a standout redshirt freshman season at left tackle, Boise State's Kage Casey has been named Second Team Freshman All-America by The Athletic Thursday afternoon.
Â
This marks the second consecutive season a Bronco offensive lineman has received Freshman All-America honors after Mason Randolph was bestowed the accolade last year by the FWAA and College Football News.
Â
Casey becomes the 12th Bronco all-time to receive Freshman All-America honors and the fourth in the past two years.
Â
Starting and playing in all 13 games so far this season, Casey was a significant and steady presence at left tackle this year. He was the left anchor to an offensive line that ranks 12th in the country in sacks allowed, limiting opponents to just 1.08 sacks per game.
Â
Casey saw 755 total snaps over his 13 games this season. During those 755 snaps, he allowed only one sack, four QB hits, 17 QB hurries for a total of 22 pressures on the quarterback. He graded out at 100% efficiency in three games – against North Dakota, Wyoming and Air Force – and finished the year with a 96.5% efficiency.
Â
He enters bowl season with a 74.1 grade on the offensive line with a season-high grade of 92.1 coming in Boise State's dominating win at Utah State on Nov. 18.
Â
Casey will help lead Boise State as they play UCLA in the Starco Brands LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk on Saturday, Dec. 16. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. MT/4:30 p.m. PT at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game will air nationally on ABC.
