Broncos Garner 10 Academic All-District Honors

BOISE, Idaho - Ten Boise State cross country and track & field student-athletes earned NCAA Division I CSC Academic All-District honors, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced.
 
The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and academics.
 
Ines Borba, Alyssa Cullen, Delaney Griffin, MaLeigha Menegatti and Rebecca Vander Poel represented the women's team.
 
Ines Borba (4.0, kinesiology) finished eighth in the women's 1500-meter final at the 2023 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships (May 11-13), clocking a personal-best time of 4:26.22.
 
Borba was named to the Academic All-MW team in Spring 2021 and was a 2020-21 MW Scholar-Athlete. This is Borba's second all-district nod.
 
Alyssa Cullen (4.0, psychology) was a part of the women's 4x400m relay that placed third at the 2023 MW Outdoor Championships, breaking the school record with a time of 3:39.16. She was named to the All-MW Outdoor Track & Field team for her efforts in the 4x400m relay.
 
Cullen was also part of the quartet that clocked a program-best time of 45.30 in the women's 4x100m relay at the Fresno State Invitational (April 29).
 
Delaney Griffin (3.845, kinesiology) ran the 1200m portion of the women's distance medley relay at the 2023 Indoor Track & Field MW Championships (Feb. 23-25), earning All-MW Indoor Track & Field honors for the team's silver medal-finish.
 
Griffin was named to the Academic All-MW team in Spring 2021 and was a 2020-21 MW Scholar-Athlete.
 
MaLeigha Menegatti (3.59/4.0, accountancy/workplace performance) won the women's 800m race at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships in 2023. She set the school, meet and conference record at the indoor meet, and the meet record at the outdoor championship.
 
Menegatti advanced to both the 2023 indoor and outdoor NCAA Championships in the 800m and is a three-time NCAA West Preliminary Round qualifier.
 
The Pueblo West, Colo., native is a two-time second-team All-American, three-time All-MW Indoor Track & Field, two-time All-MW Outdoor Track & Field, three-time Academic All-MW and a three-time MW Scholar-Athlete. This marks Menegatti's second all-district accolade.
 
Rebecca Vander Poel (3.925, business finance) ran the 400m leg of the women's DMR at the indoor league championships, finishing second. She garnered All-MW Indoor Track & Field honors for her contributions in the relay.
 
On the men's side, five Broncos notched Academic All-District awards in Connor Bjornson (3.736, general business management), Freddie Carcas (3.63, mechanical engineering), Aidan Palmer (3.566, business administration), David Pierce (3.53, mechanical engineering) and Ben Sherman (3.982, marketing)
 
Bjornson opened the 2023 outdoor season with a second-place finish in the men's javelin throw at the Yote Icebreaker Invite (March 18).
 
Carcas recorded a top-five finish in the men's 10k at the outdoor league championships, clocking a personal-best time of 30:38.06.
 
Palmer recorded a top-30 finish at the NCAA DI West Region Cross Country Championships (Nov. 11), with a personal-best time of 29:08.7.
 
Pierce ran a season-best time of 10.95 in the men's 100m dash at the outdoor conference championships.
 
Palmer and Sherman each garnered Academic All-MW honors in spring 2021 and were 2020-21 MW Scholar-Athletes.
