Samantha Wood races through the Austrian Alps at the U20 Mountain World Championships

Wood Finishes as Top Female American in the Mountain Classic Junior Race

INNSBRUCK, Austria – Samantha Wood was the top female American finisher  in the Mountain Classic Junior Race at the U20 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships, Saturday in the Austrian Alps. 

In her first experience with Team USA, Wood traversed the 6.7-kilometer course featuring 360 meters of climbing and descent in 36:16 to finish 16th overall. 

Wood joins former Bronco Allie Ostrander, who won the event in the 2015 World Mountain Running Championship in Wales, as Boise State athletes to compete with Team USA in mountain and trail running. 

As a freshman, Wood was a member of the Broncos lineup at the Mountain West and NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships. Outdoors she set season bests in the 1,500m (4:35.79) and 5,000m (17:01.58) at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
