Broncos Host Cyclones for Friday Night Dual

WELCOME TO THE X:Â Boise State will host Iowa State for a dual on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m., in ExtraMile Arena. The theme of the meet is Eras Night (Boise State Gymnastics Version), with the first 200 fans in attendance getting a custom Eras Night poster.
THE LAST TIME:Â The Broncos swept their season-opening quad, scoring a 195.800 to defeat San Jose State (195.625), Air Force (194.975) and West Chester (191.825). The Broncos' three wins gave head coach Tina Bird her 250th career victory. Emily Lopez finished first on bars (9.950) and tied for first on beam (9.925) with teammate Emma Loyim, while Courtney Blackson tied for first on vault (9.900).
THE OUTSIDE:Â Iowa State enters Friday's dual 19th in the Road to Nationals Rankings. The Cyclones are coming off a victory over #30 Illinois State, after scoring 196.900-196.125. They currently sit with a 2-2 record.
1989:Â The Broncos and Cyclones first faced one another on Jan. 20, 1989. The two programs have since faced one another four more times, with the last meeting on Feb. 24, 2019. Boise State is currently 5-0 against Iowa State.
INVISIBLE STRING:Â Friday's meet will feature a dual between twins in Boise State's Emma Loyim (junior) and Iowa State's Hannah Loyim (junior). Emma competed on beam and floor in each of the Broncos' competitions in the 2024 campaign. For the Cyclones, Hannah has competed on vault and beam four times and bars and floor three times.
SWEETER THAN FICTION:Â Boise State currently sits at 24th nationally on floor, averaging a 49.183 on the apparatus. Individually, senior Emily Lopez is 12th nationally on bars (9.908).
NOTHING NEW:Â On Jan. 23, senior Emily Lopez garnered two Mountain West Specialist of the Week awards. Lopez was tabbed the Bars Specialist of the Week for the third week in a row and the Co-Beam Specialist of the Week after tallying season-high marks of 9.950 and 9.925, respectively. She was also named the Ford Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 24. Senior Courtney Blackson and junior Emma Loyim also joined Lopez in garnering weekly conference honors. Blackson was named the Co-Vault Specialist of the Week after tying for first with a season-best score of 9.900, while Loyim earned Co-Beam Specialist of the Week for matching her career-high score of 9.925, tying for first with Lopez.
