WHAT'S NEXT:Â Boise State will compete in its final weekend of fall competition with two separate events. Two Bronco pairs will compete at the AVCA National Pairs Championship in Huntsville, Alabama, while the remaining 16 members of the squad will take part in the Lopes Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, hosted by Grand Canyon.
Â
TWO PAIR TEAM:Â The Broncos will send two pairs, the maximum allowed, to the AVCA National Championships for the first time in program history. Boise State had previously earned a bid through its play from last season, but earned a second bid when Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden won the Spokane AVCA Pairs Tournament on Oct. 13. Anderson and Wolden will join Allyson Alden and Emilia Guerra-Acuña at the three-day event, which begins on Nov. 15.
Â
AVCA FORMAT:Â The two Bronco pairs are two of 64 duos across the nation that will converge at John Hunt Park for the event. The national event will consist of 16 pools of four pairs, with pool play taking place on Friday. The top two seeds from each pool will advance to the championship bracket while the bottom two pairs will advance to the consolation bracket.
LOPES INVITATIONAL FORMAT:Â The remainder of the Boise State team will compete against pairs from Arizona, Arizona State, Grand Canyon and Washington. The two-day event will consist of two different tournaments on each day, with each tournament featuring four divisions of three teams each.
LAST TIME OUT:Â Nine out of 10 Boise State pairs finished with a winning record at the City of Trees Classic, including two tandems (Charlee Ellena/Guerra- Acuña and Anika Christensen/Nora Hayd) that went undefeated. The Broncos finished with a 27-9-3 over the entire weekend
