The senior is now being considered for three different national awards
BOISE, Idaho – Tyson Degenhart is officially receiving consideration for the 2025 John R. Wooden Award Men's Player of the Year honor as he was named to the award's preseason watch list, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced on Thursday.
Â
The watch list was chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts and features the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All-American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award.
Â
Degenhart is one of 22 seniors on the preseason list and the first Bronco to earn a spot on the Wooden Award's watch list since Chandler Hutchison in 2017-18.
Â
Entering his senior season, Degenhart has already etched his name as one of the best in Boise State program history. The 6-8 forward is a two-time All-Mountain West First Team recipient and a 2024 CSC Academic All-America First Team honoree. In 101 career games, including 95 starts, Degenhart has scored 1,361 points and tabulated 512 rebounds. He is also the only player in school history to start in three straight NCAA Tournament games.
Â
Last year, Degenhart led the Broncos in scoring with 16.7 points per game and was second in rebounds with 6.2 per game. He finished the year with 534 points, which were the 12th-most in a season in school history. The product of Mt. Spokane High School shot 50.3% from the field, which helped make him only the third Bronco since 1992-93 to have three straight seasons of shooting 50% or better.
Â
Degenhart was named the 2024-25 Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year and to the All-Mountain West Preseason Team in mid-October.
Â
In addition to the Wooden Award Men's Player of the Year Watch List, Degenhart has been selected to two other national award preseason watch lists: Naismith Award Men's College Player of the Year and Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year.
Â
The candidates for the Wooden Award Men's Player of the Year will be trimmed to the midseason list, late season list and National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players while nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2025 John R. Wooden Award will be presented at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in April.
Â
Boise State will play next at San Francisco on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 8:30 pm MT.
