
Boise State Records Fifth-Straight Win in Standoff With Cowboys

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Led by team captains Alvaro Cardenas and Tyson Degenhart, Boise State recorded its fifth-consecutive victory, beating Wyoming, 67-58, on Tuesday night at Arena-Auditorium.

The Broncos (11-3) improved to 3-0 in Mountain West conference play, while the Cowboys (8-6) dropped to 1-2.

Cardenas paced all scorers in the game and totaled 19 points to go along with six assists. Degenhart had 16 points and nine rebounds while Andrew Meadow nabbed his fourth double-digit effort with 11 points.

A.J. Wills scored a team-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Obi Agbim tallied 14 points while Dontaie Allen added eight points.

With an efficient flow and offensive rhythm early in the game, Boise State scored the first six points of the contest on baskets by three different players. Conversely, Wyoming was ice cold at the outset shooting just nine percent from the floor while making two of its first 22 shot attempts.

The Broncos took an early double-digit advantage and led by as many as a baker's dozen in the opening frame. Wyoming, however, pieced together an extended 10-0 run and cut what was once a 13-point deficit down to three with just under four minutes remaining in the first half.

Despite trimming Boise State's double-digit advantage to one possession, the Broncos maintained the lead for the entire first half. The team limited the Cowboys to 19 points on 24 percent shooting (8-for-33 FGs) in the first 20 minutes.

Chris Lockett capped the first-half scoring for Boise State burying a three with 1:48 on the clock. In total, the Broncos shot 44 percent from the field, made three three-pointers and led, 25-19, at the intermission.

To start the second half, Wyoming scored six of the first nine points. The Cowboys sliced Boise State's lead to three once more, and eventually pulled to within a single point with 12:11 left to play in the contest.

After trailing for nearly 30 game minutes, Wyoming collected its first lead of the night. Wills knocked down his second three of evening which put the Cowboys ahead by one and forced a Broncos timeout.

Following the timeout and on the ensuing possession, Boise State answered in kind with a three of its own. Javan Buchanan poured in his first triple of the game, making it a 41-39 game.

Down the stretch, the Broncos created a bit of separation and opened up an eight-point led on a knock-down three by Meadow. From there, Boise State didn't look back, outscoring Wyoming 23-12 across the final 3:46.
With win, the Broncos are now 2-1 on the road and have won consecutive games away from ExtraMile Arena. The last time the team produced a road winning streak was Feb. 27 and March 8, 2024.
