Broncos Win Fourth-Straight Game

ARLINGTON, Texas – Sophomore Kasey Aguinaga and freshman Abby Dowell combined on three-hit shutout and Boise State defeated host UT Arlington 6-0 at the Maverick Invitational, Monday.

The victory was the first for Dowell (1-0) and the fourth-straight for the Broncos (8-2). She pitched the final-four innings in relief of Aguinaga, who made her season debut. The duo combined to strike out six Mavericks (3-7) and give Boise State its first shutout of the season.

"Our team continues to be resilient," head coach Justin Shults said. "I am proud of the way we played after dropping the first game of the weekend. We continue to learn from our mistakes and build on our successes."

Freshman Keely Goushá gave Boise State a 1-0 lead with an RBI-triple in the second and the Broncos put together a five-run rally in the fourth.

Alycia Flores led off the inning with a single, stole second and scored on a one-out single by Abby Bumcrot. Goushá followed with a bunt single to put runners at first and second. Sophia Knight reached on a throwing error and Bumcrot scored to put the Broncos on top 3-0.

Hollie Farmer plated Goushá and Knight with a single and took second on the throw home. Sydney Groves, the reigning Mountain West Player of the Week, capped the rally with an RBI-single.

The Broncos travel to Lake Charles, La., to take on McNeese, Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT/5 p.m. MT.
