LAKE CHARLES, La. – Boise State dropped a nonconference road softball game 4-1 to McNeese, Wednesday.
Â
The Broncos (8-3) fell to 4-2 with five games remaining on their eight-day road trip. McNeese (7-4), which is receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll this week, defeated Boise State for the first time in four meetings all-time.
Â
"You have to tip your cap to McNeese's pitcher," head coach Justin Shults said. "It was a hostile environment and we need to adjust to that. We did not play our best game, but we have a great opportunity to respond starting tomorrow."
Â
Boise State trailed 2-0 in the fifth when Brooklynn Pettis reached on an error to open the inning, the first baserunner for the Broncos. Alycia Flores followed with Boise State's first hit, a single that put runners at first and second. Both runners moved up on a ground out, but the Broncos wound up stranding two in scoring position.
Â
McNeese added a single tally in both the fifth and sixth before Megan Lake's solo home run in the seventh accounted for Boise State's only run.
