BATON ROUGE, La. – Boise State gave LSU all it could handle before the sixth-ranked Tigers came away with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings, Thursday at the Tiger Classic.
Â
The Broncos (8-4) were held hitless until the sixth and trailed 2-0 when pinch hitter Jordyn Hutchins singled with one out. Sophia Knight followed with a single that extended her hitting streak to 12 games. With two outs, an error loaded the bases and Boise State capitalized on a two-run single by Alycia Flores to tie the game.
Â
Boise State put a runner on base in the seventh, ninth and 10th, but could not push the go-ahead run across. LSU (9-0) won the game on a leadoff home run in the bottom of the 10th.
Â
Abby Dowell (1-1) was the tough-luck loser. The freshman southpaw went 5 1/3 innings in relief and gave up just the one run on four hits.
Â
"There were a lot of bright spots tonight," head coach Justin Shults said. "Taylor (Caudill) did a great job as the starter and Abby Dowell showed how good she is going to be. I loved the fight our team displayed tonight."
