Broncos Take on Thunderbirds for Dual in Utah

THE MEET:Â Boise State gymnastics will travel to Cedar City, Utah to face Southern Utah on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT:Â The Broncos defeated the No. 19 Cyclones 196.525-195.550 to improve to a 6-2 overall record. Senior Courtney Blackson led the Broncos with the highest overall score, tying the program record on floor with a 9.950, finishing first. Senior Emily Lopez led the Broncos on bars, tying for first with a 9.875. Sophomore Sydney Leitch posted a career-best mark of 9.825 on beam. Junior Elaina McGovern matched her career-highs on floor (9.900), bars (9.750) and vault (9.700), while sophomore Sydney Kho (9.750) and freshman Mahleea Werline (9.850) tied their career-bests on vault and bars, respectively. Freshman Carly Buell made her collegiate debut, scoring a 9.800 on bars.
ABOUT THE THUNDERBIRDS:Â Southern Utah enters the dual ranked 36th in the nation with a team score average of 195.465. The Thunderbirds sit with a 3-7 record overall, with a win over BYU at the Mean Girls Super 16 (Jan. 6) and two wins over Utah State. Southern Utah entered the 2024 season ranked 24th in the WCGA Preseason Poll.
COURT X WEEKLY AWARDS:Â Courtney Blackson was named the Mountain West Floor Specialist of the Week for the second time this season following her performance in the Broncos' home victory on Feb. 2. Blackson tied the school record with a 9.950 on floor, finishing first in the Blue and Orange's win over No. 19 Iowa State. This marked the 26th time a Bronco has scored a 9.950, giving Blackson the share of the school record in vault and floor. The Elk Grove, Calif., native's victory was her second of the season and first on the apparatus. This is her 11th weekly conference honor and fifth time collecting the award for floor.
BRONCOS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS:Â Boise State currently sits at 23rd and 24th nationally on floor and beam, respectively. The Broncos are averaging scores of 49.200 on floor and 49.006 on beam. Individually, Emily Lopez is tied for 19th nationally on bars (9.900).
