BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis head coach has announced the addition of Paula Schaefer to the 2024 recruiting class.
Â
Schaefer joins the program from Duisburg, Germany and currently trains at Tennisclub Bredeney. The incoming Bronco has recorded several titles in her junior career, including national A7 singles and A4 doubles women's tournament championships in October 2022 and June 2023, respectively. Schaefer is also a three-time finalist at other national a7 women's tournaments and a four-time state champion.
Â
The Germany native's resume continues with a variety of impressive wins. Most notably, Schaefer defeated Isabel Heupgen, who held a UTR rating of 9.78 at the time, in straight-sets 6-2, 6-2. She also recorded a win over Alexa Volkov 6-0, 6-4, who also held a UTR of rating of 9.2.
Â
What Roghaar Says:
"Paula is another huge addition to an amazing 2024 class for us. Without question, she's going to make a big impact on our success in the coming years. Paula is an incredible competitor. She's mentally tough, knows how to win, is strong in singles and doubles and will bring great experience and maturity to our program right away next year."
Â
"Paula's elite athleticism really shines through in her game. Her physicality and movement on court make her really dangerous, and we can't wait to continue her development in our program. She has a really bright future here, and she understands what this place and our program is all about. She's a great fit into our culture and will add to that right away as well."
Â
What Schaefer Says:
"The college sports system is quite unique. This opportunity enables me to continue pursuing my passion for tennis while also working towards a strong academic degree. I feel fortunate to have these opportunities at Boise State."
Â
"I believe I can make an immediate positive impact on the tennis court. I thrive in team matches and have a real passion for doubles. Additionally, I am full of energy and even on tough days, I strive to uplift and motivate others."
Â
"From my first conversation with Coach Roghaar, I knew Boise State was the place for me. His positivity, laughter and genuine passion for the program is infectious. I could sense his enthusiasm for helping the team improve as players and individuals every day. I'm already eager to hit the court with him and the team."
Â
"I enjoy chasing down balls and never giving up on a point, regardless of the score. I'd say my speed and agility are among my strengths, along with my ability to adapt my strategy to different types of opponents."
