BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's basketball assistant coach Mike Burns was named to the 100 Rising Stars: Men's Mid-Major Assistants, Silver Waves Media announced this week.

The list was compiled after consultations with a panel of industry experts.

Burns recently completed his eighth season with the Broncos since arriving ahead of the 2016-17 season. The Broncos have compiled a 168-92 record in his tenure with the program.

Tasked with coordinating the Boise State defense, Burns' tutelage has led to one of the most impressive stretches in program history on that end of the court. With Burns on staff, Boise State has posted four of the program's top five adjusted defensive efficiency marks in the KenPom era (since 1997) – including the top mark in program history in the 2021-22 season.

The Broncos' defense has been ranked in the top 30 of KenPom's defensive efficiency each of the last three years.

This past season, Burns' unit ranked 29th in the country in KenPom's defensive efficiency metric. Boise State went 22-12 to finish tied for second in the Mountain West and qualify for the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.
