BOISE, Idaho – Boise State remained undefeated at home this season with two wins over San Jose State, Friday.
Â
The Broncos (23-13, 3-2 Mountain West) downed the Spartans (11-16, 2-3 MW) 8-0 in five-innings to complete Thursday's game that was suspended due to rain. Boise State followed up with a 12-4 victory, again in five innings, during the regularly scheduled game.
Â
"Taylor Caudill gave us a great start and our offense had some big swings," head coach Justin Shults said. "We did a really nice job of sticking to our plan."
Â
The Broncos led 2-0 in the bottom of the second when the series-opener resumed, Friday. Boise State put the game away in the third with a five-run rally. Leah McAnally belted a two-run home run and Mykenzie went deep with two aboard for a 7-0 advantage.
Â
McAnally's RBI-ground out in the fourth provided the final run needed for a mercy-rule victory. Taylor Caudill (12-7) was masterful in the circle. She retired the first-11 batters she faced, struck out five, and recorded a two-hit shutout.
Â
Boise State stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. Jordyn Hutchins launched a two-run home run and Brooklynn Pettis delivered a three-run blast.
Â
The Spartans battled back to pull within 5-4 before Hutchins hit her second two-run home run of the game to extend the lead to 7-4 in the fourth.
Â
The Broncos closed out the game with a five-run fifth. Karizma Bergesen, a transfer from San Jose State, came off the bench and crushed a three-run home run. McAnally collected an RBI-single and Pettis sealed the victory with a sacrifice fly.
