Bronco Duo Earns SLC Pair of the Week Honors
FRISCO, Texas – Boise State beach volleyball's Marlayna Bullington and Sierra Land were named the Southland Conference Pair of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Â
The honor marks the first weekly award the program has received this season and the fourth in program history. It is the third time Land has received the award in her career after earning it twice last season alongside partner Madison Nichols. Bullington, a graduate transfer from Austin Peay, earned her first SLC recognition.Â
Â
Bullington and Land, who were two of four Broncos named to the SLC Preseason Players to Watch when the league announced its preseason poll, earned the recognition following a 4-0 performance at the Pepperdine Classic. The duo took down Kate Clermont and McKenna Thomas of Pepperdine, who is receiving votes in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll, 22-20, 21-18, before defeating No. 20 Arizona's top pair, Grace Cook and Hope Shannon, 21-19, 21-10.Â
The pair completed the weekend with straight-set victories over the top duos from San Francisco and Vanguard, helping propel the Broncos to a 7-3 record to match their best start in program history.
The duo are off to a hot start on the season, holding an 8-2 record on court one. The pair is just four wins away from matching the program's season record of 12 wins on the top court, set by Erin Martin and Yasmin Tan during the 2022 season. Earlier this season, Land broke the program record for most career wins on the top court with 25 victories.
Â
Boise State is off to Manoa, Hawaii, for the Queen's Cup, March 7-9. The Broncos will play four duals on the first two days of competition, followed by bracket play on Saturday.
