BOISE, Idaho – The 2024 Urresti Golf Tournament on April 19, 2024 will be held in honor of Rich Urresti, who passed away on March 17, 2024.
Richard "Rich" Joseph Urresti was born June 29, 1944, in Boise, Idaho, to Gus and Victoria Letemendi Urresti. He followed his father's footsteps in playing football at then-Boise Junior College, earning letters in 1962 and 1963 with a Second Team All-America accolade coming in 1963. Rich Urresti would start in 13 games for the Blue and Orange over his career, mostly at blocking back in 1962 and at fullback in 1963, finishing the season third on the team in rushing.
He was a model Boise State Bronco alumnus, fan, and booster. An All-American honoree running back for the Broncos, Rich was a strong supporter of the Varsity B Club. He worked diligently to make the annual Gus Urresti Golf Tournament a success to benefit the Gus Urresti Endowment for football.
His father, Gus, was one of the first prominent players in Boise State (then Boise Junior College) history. Inducted into the Boise State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984 and enshrined in the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in downtown Boise, Urresti played three seasons (1934-36) for the Broncos and was co-captain of the 1935 football team.
