Broncos to Face Cougars in First Round of NCAA Regional

THE MEET: The Broncos will travel to the Fayetteville regional site to compete in the 2024 NCAA Regional Championships, April 3-6. Boise State will face BYU in the first round of the competition on Wednesday, April 3, at 1 p.m. MT.

MAKE IT 16: Boise State has qualified for regionals in each of the last 16 seasons. The last time the Broncos missed out on the regional competition was in 2007. (The regional competition was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19.) Individually, fifth-year Adriana Popp (beam), seniors Courtney Blackson (bars and floor) and Emily Lopez (bars and beam), and junior Emma Loyim (beam and floor) qualified for regionals.

MW CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP: The Blue and Orange made history on March 23 after winning the inaugural Mountain West Championship with a score of 196.550. Boise State scored a 49.500 on beam, the highest at a conference championship. Emma Loyim collected two individual victories, tying the program record for highest beam score at a conference championship with a 9.950. She also tallied a 9.900 on floor becoming the ninth Bronco to win multiple conference crowns in the same season.

REGIONAL HISTORY: The Broncos' highest finish at the regional championships is third, having done so on five different occasions. Their most recent third-place finish came in 2017. In the current format, Boise State has advanced to the regional final once (2019). Last year, the Broncos posted their highest score at an NCAA regional competition in program history with their 196.700 against BYU in the first round.

AWARD SEASON: Emily Lopez was named the 2024 MW Gymnast of the Year, while head coach Tina Bird was named MW Coach of the Year. Lopez was also named the MW Bars Specialist of the Year with an NQS of 9.930, while Adriana Popp earned Co-Beam Specialist of the Year with an NQS of 9.895.

BRONCOS IN THE RANKINGS: Boise State finished the regular season with an NQS of 196.715, ranking 29th nationally. The Broncos rank 21st on beam, owning an NQS of 49.300. Individually, Emily Lopez concluded the regular season as the top bars specialist in the MW. She is tied for 20th nationally, posting an NQS of 9.930.

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF: Boise State faced BYU last season in the first round of the NCAA Regional Championship in Los Angeles. The Broncos defeated the Cougars 196.700-196.125 to move on to the second round of the competition.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS: BYU finished third in its first Big 12 Championship with a score of 197.025. The Cougars concluded the regular season ranking 32nd nationally, boasting an NQS 196.655. The team ranks 24th on bars and 29th on beam. Individually, Brynlee Andersen is tied for 29th in the country on beam.
