Quartet to Represent Boise State as Individuals in NCAA Regional

THE MEET: Fifth-year Adriana Popp (BB), seniors Courtney Blackson (FX) and Emily Lopez  (UB/BB) and junior Emma Loyim (BB/FX) will represent the Broncos and compete in the second round of the NCAA Regional Championships after qualifying as individuals. The quartet will compete tomorrow, April 4, in the second round of the NCAA Regional Championship in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. MT.
FIRST ROUND RECAP:Â Boise State gymnastics was edged by BYU in the first round of the NCAA Regional Championship. Both teams scored 195.750, but the Cougars had a 0.25 advantage in the dropped scores to win the meet. Emma Loyim tallied a 9.900 on beam, matching the second-highest regional score in Bronco history. This was her third beam victory of the season, putting her season win total at six. She has five-career beam wins and 10 total wins. Emily Lopez posted a 9.900 on vault, tying the seventh-best regional score in program history. She finished first on the apparatus for the second time this year, bringing her career win total to eight, tying for 10th in program history. She has 27 total victories as a Bronco, including 11 this season. Blake Pascal tied for first on floor with a 9.825, notching her second-career victory.
REGIONAL HISTORY:Â The Broncos' highest finish at the regional championships is third, having done so on five different occasions. Their most recent third-place finish came in 2017. In the current format, Boise State has advanced to the regional final once (2019). Last year, the Broncos posted their highest score at an NCAA regional competition in program history with their 196.700 against BYU in the first round.
AWARD SEASON:Â Emily Lopez was named the 2024 MW Gymnast of the Year, while head coach Tina Bird was named MW Coach of the Year. Lopez was also named the MW Bars Specialist of the Year with an NQS of 9.930, while Adriana Popp earned Co-Beam Specialist of the Year with an NQS of 9.895.
BRONCOS IN THE RANKINGS:Â Boise State finished the regular season with an NQS of 196.715, ranking 29th nationally. The Broncos rank 21st on beam, owning an NQS of 49.300. Individually, Emily Lopez concluded the regular season as the top bars specialist in the MW. She is tied for 20th nationally, posting an NQS of 9.930.
MAKE IT 16:Â Boise State has qualified for regionals in each of the last 16 seasons. The last time the Broncos missed out on the regional competition was in 2007. (The regional competition was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19).
