SAN DIEGO – Boise State's newcomers played a big part of a 6-2 victory over San Diego State in Mountain West softball, Sunday.
Â
Freshmen Sophia Knight and Leah McAnally and transfer Karizma Bergesen each collected two RBI to account for the Broncos' scoring.
Â
"It was a great response by our team today," head coach Justin Shults said. "Today was an example of what we can do at our best. We have a huge week at home with Washington and Fresno State coming to town and look forward to Bronco Nation coming out to support us."
Â
The Broncos (25-16, 5-5 MW) scored the game's first runs during a four-run fourth. With the bases loaded and one out, Bergesen came off the bench to deliver a two-run single off the wall in right-center that gave Boise State a 2-0 lead.
Â
Knight, the nation's leader in hits, doubled the lead with a two-run single down the left field line.
Â
San Diego State (23-14, 10-3) got one run back in its half of the fourth, but Boise State put the game away when McAnally hammered a two-run homer to left in the fifth.
Â
Taylor Caudill (14-9) tossed a five-hitter and went the distance in the circle for the second-straight game.
