BOISE, Idaho – Boise State finished its season with a 6-3 loss to San Diego State in the final of the Mountain West Softball Championship, Saturday.
Â
The Broncos (36-23) erased a 2-0 deficit in the fifth inning. Hollie Farmer, one of three Broncos named all-tournament, led off with a double. With one out, pinch hitter Leah McAnally singled.
Â
Both runners moved up when the throw from center field missed the cut off. McAnally took third on a throwing error that occurred trying to retire Farmer at the plate. Sophia Knight followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
Â
The Aztecs (31-18) answered with two runs in their half of the fifth and added two in the sixth for a 6-2 lead.
Â
In the seventh, Mykenzie Hanna led off with her 18th home run of the season to tie teammate Sydney Groves for the conference lead.
Â
Karizma Bergesen singled with one out and pinch runner Skylar Stroh took third on a two-out double by Knight.
Â
Jordyn Hutchins represented the tying run at the plate, but she struck out on a 1-2 pitch in the dirt as she tried to check her swing.
Â
"We fought all season and I am proud of our team for that," head coach Justin Shults said. "We put ourselves in a position to play for a championship after being down to our last strike (Thursday against Fresno State) and we got the tying run to the plate. You cannot ask for much more than that."
