LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three Boise State softball players were honored by the NFCA as All-Pacific Region selections, the organization announced Saturday.
Sophomore infielder Sydney Groves was named to the first team as a designated player or utility/non-pitcher, while senior right-hander Taylor Caudill and freshman Sophia Knight were second-team selections as a pitcher and outfielder, respectively.
Boise State has had at least three all-region selections in each of the last three years. Caudill and Knight were named to the All-Mountain West first team, while Groves was a second-team selection.
This is the first time Groves has been named to the all-region team in her career. She hit .318 on the season (50-of-157) and tied the team-high with 18 home runs to go along with nine doubles. The 18 home runs set a sophomore record and is the second-highest total in program history. That mark led the MW and is tied for 20th nationally this season.
Caudill ended her career with two all-region selections after another dominant season in the circle. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native was 19-13 with a 2.77 ERA behind 15 complete games and three shutouts. Caudill added three saves and struck out 173 batters – a Boise State single-season record.
The 19 wins is the third-most in program history while her ERA, batting average against, saves, shutouts and strikes per-seven-innings all rank in the top 10 in program history.
Knight concluded a stellar freshman campaign that saw her recognized on the 2024 TUCCI/NFCA D1 Freshman of the Year Top 25 list and the MW Freshman of the Year. The outfielder is second nationally with 85 hits this season and batted a team-leading .405. Knight had eight doubles, two triples and a home run. She set freshman class records in games started (59), hits and stolen bases (18). Only four freshmen in the region were honored by the NFCA this season.
The Broncos went 36-23 on the season and finished as the MW Championship runner-up. The 251 wins over the last eight seasons is the most in the conference during that stretch.
