Four Broncos Named to All-Academic Team

FRISCO, Texas – Boise State beach volleyball's Sierra Land was named the Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year, the SLC announced on Tuesday. The honor marks the first time a Bronco has won the accolade in program history. 

Four Broncos were also named to the SLC All-Academic team, matching Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the most honorees in the conference. Land, Sharli O'Neil, Abbie Wolf and Elli Wolthuis were all recognized for both their academic and athletic performances.

The Student-Athlete of the Year honor represents the beach volleyball student-athlete who best exemplifies academic and athletic success. To qualify, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA and demonstrated academic and athletic success for two years at the nominating school. 

A health science major with a 3.76 cumulative GPA, Land was named the SLC Pair of the Year and SLC First Team at the No. 1 position alongside partner Marlayna Bullington. Competing at the top court the entire season, she finished with a 28-13 record, matching the program record for most victories in an entire season.

The Albuquerque, N.M., native, finished her career with 71 career victories, the second-most in program history. Her 45 career wins on the top court are also the most in the program's record book. Academically, she graduated magna cum laude and earned a spot on the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll a year ago.  

O'Neil, a psychology major with a 3.59 cumulative GPA, was named First Team All-SLC at the No. 5 position after posting a 28-11 record on the year. Her 28 wins matched a program record for most victories in a season in program history. The Burien, Wash., native picked up five ranked victories on the year and finished with an undefeated 3-0 record at the SLC Championship. She was also named to the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll a year ago.

A native of Federal Way, Wash., Wolf earned first team all-conference honors at the No. 4 position after posting a 20-3 record on the year. A communications major with a 3.83 cumulative GPA, she started at the No. 4 court, posting an 11-1 record before moving up to court three, where she finished with a 9-2 mark. She won 87% of her matches on the year, the best winning percentage in a single season in program history. Wolf also tied the program record by winning 14 consecutive matches alongside partner Addison Wolden. Academically, she was named to the dean's list with highest honors and was named to the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll last season.

A kinesiology major with a 3.33 cumulative GPA, Wolthuis earned SLC First Team honors at the No. 5 position after finishing 28-11 on the year. Her 28 wins matched a program record for most wins in a single season. She picked up five ranked victories on the year and finished the season with an undefeated record of 3-0 at the SLC Championship. Wolthuis was named to the dean's list with high honors and was named to the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2022-23.

The SLC All-Academic Team is comprised of 10 student-athletes, with first-team all-conference players who had a minimum of a 3.25 GPA earning an automatic spot. The remainder of the team was voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and academic staff members of each SLC institution.
