Shields Named MW Coach of the Year, Five Broncos Earn MW All-Tournament Team Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State head Coach Luke Shields has been named the Mountain West Coach of the Year, while five Broncos Sam Sippel, James Van Herzeele, Jan Lucca Marquardt, Caden Moortgat and Jett Middleton all earned MW Championship All-Tournament Team honors as voted on by the conference's head coaches and announced Friday by the league office.

For Shields it is back-to-back MW Coach of the Year honors after receiving the same in 2023. It is also the fourth time in his collegiate coaching career that he has been named the MW Coach of the Year after earning the award twice at Fresno State prior to coming home to Boise State.

This is the first year that the MW has recognized an all-tournament team and the Broncos dominated the selections after winning the team title last week.

In singles, Boise State was the recipient of three of the six awards. Sippel led the way as the MW Championship MVP, in addition he earned the all-tournament team spot for the No. 1 singles position after winning his semifinal and final matches.

Van Herzeele received recognition for No. 3 singles powered by his victory against San Diego State in the championship match.

Jan Lucca Marquardt made the singles team at the No. 4 position by going 2-0 with wins versus Air Force in the opening round and San Diego State in the championship.

In doubles, Boise State claimed two of the three honors. Sippel and Marquardt earned doubles team recognition for play on court one, where they went 2-0, while Caden Moortgat and Jett Middleton received the accolade for their court two play, going 3-0.
