BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's tennis program's incoming freshman class ranked fifth in the Top 25 Women's Mid-Major Recruiting Classes, the Tennis Recruiting Network (TRN) announced Friday. The fifth-place finish is the highest recruiting ranking in program history.

The Broncos are the top-ranked Mountain West program in the rankings, which come out annually. Boise State also received votes in the overall recruiting rankings.

The 2024-25 freshman class includes Maya Dutta, Skylar Moody, Paula Schaefer and Masa Viriant. Moody redshirted last season, while the remaining three will appear on campus this fall.

""We're really fired up about how this class came together with such elite players and people," head coach Beck Roghaar said. " Our incoming class is all in, and they want to accomplish something really special together with their teammates"

Dutta is a five-star recruit according to TRN and is the No. 1 recruit from Texas. She is currently the 51st-ranked recruit nationally for the class of 2024. The incoming Bronco has won four Junior ITF singles titles including two 2023 J60 titles in Managua, Nicaragua. The previous year she won a J5 ITF singles title in Santa Tecla, El Salvador and a J4 singles title in Monterrey, Mexico. Dutta also won five ITF doubles titles.

Moody will start playing for the Broncos after redshirting this past season. Moody was rated as a top-15 recruit for her class in the state of Texas according to TRN, and ranked 28th nationally at one point in her career. The Texas product earned an appearance in the round of 16 at the Clay Court Nationals for singles and was a National L2 winner. Other impressive results include a fourth-place finish in singles and second-place finish in doubles at the Texas Grand Slam sectional.

Viriant is from Slovenia and has four national team appearances in her career. She has consistently been ranked as one of the top juniors in Slovenia, rising as high as No. 3 in the national junior rankings. Viriant's, who currently trains at the Piatti Tennis Center in Italy, international success has earned her an ITF World Junior ranking of 465.

Schaefer joins the program from Duisburg, Germany and currently trains at Tennisclub Bredeney. The incoming Bronco has recorded several titles in her junior career, including national A7 singles and A4 doubles women's tournament championships in October 2022 and June 2023, respectively. Schaefer is also a three-time finalist at other national A7 women's tournaments and a four-time state champion.

The rankings do not consider incoming transfer students, but also joining the Broncos this upcoming season is highly sought-after Zdena Safarova. She came to the Broncos after spending one season on the Oklahoma women's tennis team. Originally from the Czech Republic, Safarova posted a 22-5 overall record and a 13-1 mark at the No. 2 position with partner Julia Garcia Ruiz. The duo finished the season with an ITA doubles ranking of No. 36 and an overall team ranking of No. 19.

"This class is full of talented, experienced, hard working, gritty competitors that are hungry to represent this university, develop, and make their mark in this program," Roghaar said. "They're accomplishments have been many, but most importantly they want a whole lot more. We can't wait to get to work, shaping the future of Boise State women's tennis with these new players adding all they'll bring."
