BOISE, Idaho – Kelsey Betthauser has been named an assistant coach with the Boise State track and field and cross country program, head coach Pat McCurry announced, Monday. Betthauser will work with Boise State's throwers, and joins the program from Idaho, where she worked with the same group.

"I am excited to join the Boise State track and field program. The energy and passion that Coach McCurry brings at the helm is sure to springboard the program forward" said Betthauser. "I am honored to get to be a part of his team. Boise State has a rich history and I look forward to doing my part with the throws group to add to that history and help this team achieve their goals!"

"Kelsey brings energy and professionalism that will be great assets to our program," said McCurry. "Boise State has a proud history in the throwing events and I could not think of anyone better to carry that tradition forward."

Betthauser joined the Vandals in August 2022, and coached athletes to three NCAA West Preliminary appearances, five conference titles, and a school record holder in the weight throw. She most notably coached Mia Sylvesater and Noah Culbertson to impressive careers in Moscow.

Mia Sylvester was named the 2023 Big Sky Indoor Female Freshman of the Year and later the conference's outstanding female performer in 2024 -- the first Vandal to do so since 2021. Noah Culbertson made two appearances at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in 2023 and 2024, and was a conference champion in the indoor shot put this year.

Prior to her stint at Idaho she coached the throwers at Southern Arkansas from 2020-22. In her first season, Betthauser helped five athletes earn first-team all-conference selections. She also led the men's team to second-place finishes in discus, hammer throw and shot put, and coached a member of the women's team to a runner-up finish in the hammer throw at the Great American Conference Championships.

In the following season, Betthauser guided nine athletes to GAC first-team all-conference selections, and three individuals to GAC individual titles. Her athletes swept the top spot on both the men's and women's sides in discus, and also took first place in the shot put. Betthauser also saw one of her athletes set the school record for the javelin.

Before beginning her coaching career Betthauser competed for Dubuque from 2016 to 2019. She earned multiple individual awards and set the school record for women's discus. In 2018, Betthauser also completed an internship at EXOS and worked at MERGE Performance Institute as a strength coach. Following her undergrad, Betthauser spent a semester as a graduate assistant at McKendree University. She is a native of Ellsworth, Wis.
