Broncos Sweep Tennessee State in Arizona

8/31/2024 1:19:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

TUCSON, Ariz. – Paige Bartsch led the Broncos with her 21st career double-double on 14 kills and 10 digs as Boise State recorded a sweep (25-20, 25-17, 25-14) over Tennessee State Saturday at the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz.

Boise State dominated the entire contest against the Ohio Valley Conference Tigers. The Broncos trailed only once in the match, at 2-1 in the third set.

The Blue and Orange used early runs in all three sets to seize control and cruise past TSU for the sweep.

To secure the win, Boise State outhit the Tigers .302 to .125, had more kills (42 to 34), service aces (six to one) and blocks (eight to four).

  • Paige Bartsch led the team with the lone double-double – the 21st of her career – of the day on 14 kills and 10 digs with three blocks.

  • Annie Kaminski hit a solid .462 percent to lead the team and had seven kills and two blocks.

  • Everyone played in the match, seeing their Bronco debuts were redshirt-freshman Kendall Hastings at middle blocker and true freshman Katelyn Van Kirk at outside hitter.
  • Seeing their first action of the year was Layla Smith, who had four kills and two blocks, as well as Bridey O'Connor at right-side hitter.

QUOTABLES

Shawn Garus, Head Coach
  • "I think today we saw our team depth as everyone played and contributed."
  • "Layla Smith came in off the bench in the third and was really strong for us with four kills and two blocks."
  • "Paige was solid, and I am happy she moved up on the career kills list to 10th all-time with her 14 kills against TSU."
  • "I thought our serving was really good overall. We served hard and hit all the zones consistently and got them (the Tigers) out of system a lot."
  • "This was a good bounce-back game for us after last night's loss to Arizona. We served better, passed better, set well and attacked with confidence. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's match against VCU."

WHAT'S NEXT

The Blue and Orange will be back in action Sunday at 11 a.m. MDT when they conclude the Cactus Classic against the VCU Rams from the Atlantic 10 Conference.
