HARRIS, Mich. — Three Broncos finished in the top 10 as Boise State men's golf finished second in its season opener at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.

Luke Cushman (71-65-73 — 209, -7) finished third, and Gavyn Knight (73-69-72 — 214, -2) and Cole Rueck (70-71-73 — 214, -2) finished tied for ninth at Sage Run Golf Club.

Boise State finished ahead of Power-4 schools No. 21 Georgia, Michigan and UCF, and entered Monday's final round tied with eventual winner, Purdue. The Broncos shot 5-under 859 (286-280-293) on the weekend.

"It was a big week for our team," said head coach David Trainor. "Yesterday was not easy with wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour, and our guys handled the conditions and played great. We didn't have our best today, but these guys dug in and fought for every shot."
"It was a huge week for (Cushman) – his best tournament in college, lowest round and best individual finish for him. I'm proud of him and all our guys," added Trainor.
"We will learn from this week and be ready for our next event in Fort Collins," said Trainor.

Notable

The second-place effort marks the best team finish under head coach David Trainor.
This is the highest team finish since Boise State won the Redhawks Invitational (April 4-5, 2022).
The Broncos finished ahead of a ranked team in No. 21 Georgia.
Luke Cushman finished in the top five and top 10 for the first time in his career.
Cushman's 7-under 65 in the second round is tied for the ninth-lowest round by an individual in program history. His 8-under through 36 holes is tied for the third-lowest 36-hole score in program history, in relation to par.
